Growing Pains – Internet Marketers Must Grow Up…Period!

Media_httpyourinterne_cjxub

Isnt it about time we all grew up a little. Google is!... and it's probably no coincidence that the smartest brains on the planet are rooting out the fluff and nonsense, and delivering only the really good useful stuff to their inventory...the searcher.

Growing pains abound, however its for 'The Greater Good'!

The Art Factor Making Your Point Matter!

I remember a program called ‘Points of View‘, headed by Barry Took from ’79-86, and now headed by Jeremy Vine. It took advantage of the unique British way of doing things as Victoria Wood put it, “When the Russians feel strongly about an issue they form a bloody revolution — the British write a strongly worded letter to Points of View

In todays world of MEGA hype, SKY TV, twitter, blogs, facebook, iPhone App’s, neon signs, and hoodies, writing a ‘strongly worded’ letter just doesn’t cut the mustard.

Lisa Oliver And SFM Founder Daniel Wagner

Great share by Lisa Oliver if you havent visited her website yet then definitely get yourself over there.

I just shared a wonderful personal story forn Steven Pressfield. The point of Steven's message is our inner self worth! We want action, friends ( real friends) comradery, the feeling of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. This is where the Where The Rubber Meets The Road.

It's nothing personal...

"Don't take it personally."
This is tough advice. Am I supposed to take it like a chair? Sometimes it seems as though the only way to take it is personally. That customer who doesn't like your product (your best work) or that running buddy who doesn't want to run with you any longer...

via Seth Godin

It's hard not to take something personally. It's even harder when that criticism comes from someone you care about dearly or someone you love. I wonder how many wives and husbands are slowly destroying their partners spirit through systematic crippling comments. Nothing hurts and wounds our emotional health more.

Tough advice, your not kidding!

Marketing Agency Leeds Case Study Update

Marketing Agency Leeds – The Long Awaited Update

Leeds Marketing Agency

Around the middle of January 2011 I decide to do a quick test for The Six Figure Mentors and created a Page & a Post targeted around the phrase ‘Marketing Agency Leeds‘.

Both the page and the post were given equal love however by default the post linked to the page, which makes sense right?

Now some 4 months later ( having pretty much leaving it alone) I have done a quick search on Google and found the Page ranking on the first page of results out of over 1,000,000 results.

  1. Notice the number of results….Over 1,080,000 Yikes!
  2. The Page is ranking but the Post is down on page 4 or 5 of the results!

The Page and Post Debate Will Rage On

In retrospect writing a page AND a post at the same time doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you have something to write about and you want to make it ‘sticky’ around the search engines then the evidence points to creating a Page rather than a post.

In this example I would recommend writing a page all about your chosen topic and then referring to that page with frequent posts using anchor text. Anchor text is a little piece of html code here is an example:-

Marketing Agency Leeds

The first part of the code reference’s a link

<a href="yourlink.com"

and the second part of the code

>Your Anchor Text</a>

references the keyword you would like to anchor to that link. Of course you will want to use your own url and your own anchor text to anchor your text to the appropriate page in your site.

WordPress makes this Super Simple

The newest version of wordpress changes things up a little by giving you the ability to link to any of your previous posts or links just by clicking the little ‘chain’ button in your WSIWG ( wp editor). The new drop down meny function allows you to choose the Page or Post you would like to link to straight from the menu that pops up…pretty sweet.

I think this reinforces the concept that your great content should be on a Page and you should reference it often from your posts.
