The market has no taste

The market has no taste

When it comes to art, to human work that changes people, the mass market is a fool. A dolt. Stupid.

If you wait for the market to tell you that you're great, you'll merely end up wasting time. Or perhaps instead you will persuade yourself to ship the merely good, and settle for the tepid embrace of the uninvolved.

Great work is always shunned at first.

Would we (the market) benefit from more pandering by marketers churning out average stuff that gets a quick glance, or would we all be better off with passionate renegades on a mission to fulfill their vision?

Effective Marketing with Facebook Lists and NEW Groups Feature

facebook2 150x147 Effective Marketing with Facebook Lists and NEW Groups Feature

Effective   on begins with a basic understanding of Lists and the new Groups feature.

has recently changed it's Groups feature and I wanted to highlight some of those changes for you as well as share some strategies for using the List feature.  The Groups feature is new and is still a bit buggy and controversial.  It's controversy comes from the question of whether you should be able to add people to groups without their permission.  The intended purpose of this feature is to provide a place where you can privately share content such as photos, links, events, and text documents with others in the group.

In addition to the Groups feature, has made some minor changes to the List feature.  Both of these features can be utilized to effectively and efficiently market on .   I have put together 2 videos below that will highlight for you how to use these features to build your list, and to market value to your audience.  I am curious to learn your point of view on these new features and how you will use them in your business.

Here is Part One - Effective with Lists

Follow the crowd, awesome training from 'Rockstar' Robin Williams Facebook is quickly becoming the number one stop for marketing, with a gazillion users if your serious you need to embrace what Robin is sharing...

The Facebook Juggernaut!

http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/25/facebook-juggernaut/

So. Facebook. $35 billion valuation; 600 million users; 25% of all US Web traffic — and all that with fewer employees than Google has job openings. The inventor of the World Wide Web recently warned that the web may be endangered by Facebook’s colossal walled garden. A Google engineer was recently paid $3.5 million to not jump ship to work there. Facebook seems an unstoppable juggernaut. And I kind of want them to die.

Not because of their policies. They’ve been reasonably sensitive to their users’ wants, and willing to admit when they were wrong (remember Facebook Beacon?) There have been worrying signs of late, for example, their two-faced attitude towards data portability and their trademarking of the word “Face”, but I don’t (yet) object to what they do.

I dislike Facebook because they’re mediocre. They have a platform and opportunity unlike anyone else, ever—and what have they done with it? Nothing. None of their so-called innovations are actually even remotely so. Copying Twitter was smart, but hardly new; ditto Foursquare. They called Facebook Groups an innovation; it’s a basic feature they should have implemented years ago. Now they’re laughably trying to claim that integrating email into their messaging system is a world-shaking revolution.

As usual, William Gibson put it best: “Facebook feels like a mall. Twitter feels like the street.” (Which I suppose makes Zynga the mall’s arcade.) It’s one thing to shop there occasionally, but quite another to be a full-fledged mallrat—and according to the stats, that’s what we have collectively become. I want to believe that eventually we’ll wake up, and grow up, and realize that new and interesting things mostly happen elsewhere.

And so, I speculate hopefully: what if Facebook is the new LiveJournal?

You might not remember LiveJournal, a now-moribund social-blogging site, but Mark Zuckerberg does: the second scene in The Social Network depicts him liveblogging a hacking jag on his LiveJournal. (Unlike much of the movie, that scene is mostly true-to-life.) I was on LJ too, back then, mostly to keep track of my California friends while I was bouncing around the planet. Now their accounts add up to a ghost town—and while most have moved to Facebook, they’re far less active there. They’re not alone: LJ’s own stats indicate that while their userbase has grown, total user activity has actually declined.

What if LJ’s decline is a warning bell for Facebook? What if the natural human tendency is for people to initially get all excited and obsessed about social networking—but eventually, after a few years, they grow increasingly bored with it, and begin to slowly drift away?

This is a testable hypothesis. The key stat is the relationship between how long one has been a Facebook user and how much time one spends on the site. Only Facebook knows those numbers, though, and they aren’t talking. Until they do, I could cling to that hope . . .

—but here’s the kicker; it doesn’t even matter. Facebook still can’t be stopped.

Even if my apocalyptic prophecies of a global surge in enlightened self-actualization come to pass, and our collective Facebook obsession begins to fade, it will remain a mighty titan. For Mark Zuckerberg remembers LiveJournal too, and he and his braintrust have already ensured that Facebook will remain indispensable even if their users begin to lose interest.

It isn’t just a site any more: like Amazon or Google, Facebook has become a utility. That’s not a metaphor. The number of apps and sites that rely on Facebook Connect and its Graph API is skyrocketing, according to all the startups/developers I know (and, heck, here’s some actual data too.) Even once-mighty MySpace surrendered to Facebook Connect last week. Google’s half-hearted attempts to forestall them are too little, too late.

Facebook has become to the social web what Microsoft is to the desktop: mindbogglingly gargantuan, relentlessly mediocre, and almost inescapable. Like Microsoft twenty years ago, they will succeed because a bad standard is better than none: and like Microsoft ten years ago, they “innovate” by clumsily copying—and then trying to squash—the real innovators.

So let the backlash boom! Maybe it will finally spur Zuckerberg & Co. into doing something genuinely interesting and innovative with their invincible machine.

Interesting and inescapable conclusion from techcrunch blog!

facebook continues its dominance, and as techcrunch deliberate's its long term appeal, marketer's are flocking to the platform .

The plethora of info products being released that concentrate on facebook marketing is a testament to its open arms policy, completely unlike Google and its slap happy attitude to its adwords customers..

Time will tell if Facebook loses its fancy, but for now, follow the money...

How I weaned myself off the Pink Koolaid & became a Player

How I weaned myself off the Pink Koolaid & became a Player

I spent plenty o’ years drinking the business opportunity pink koolaid, buying tapes and books and going to seminars that just sent me around and around the failure merry-go-round.

After about 6 years of that I’d become *extremely* jaded and cynical. And very cautious.

I was on my upline’s “Tape Of The Week” program (~$50 per month) and even after I knew in my heart it wasn’t doing me any good, I stayed on it about 2 years longer.

Why didn’t I stop?

Because I was AFRAID of what my upline would think of me when I dropped out. (They would all say, “Perry’s a Quitter, Perry’s a Loser,” yada yada yada.)

Meanwhile I joined the absolute cheapest Inner Circle membership that Dan Kennedy offered at the time, a lowball drop-down subscription. It was the one they sent you after you’d ignored all the other offers. It cost twelve dollars and thirty-eight cents per month.

For that I got his No BS newsletter, occasional call-in days and even a members-only seminar (not unlike what I delivered to my Mastermind Club members this past weekend in Austin).

The MLM pink koolaid didn’t work at all. The Direct Marketing principles I learned from Dan worked very reliably.

I KNEW this. From experience. And from my commission checks.

So why was I giving my upline $50 per month and only giving Dan $12.38?

Because I’m an irrational, emotionally driven, easily manipulated human being, just like everyone else is.

My wife knew this too. In fact a couple years later I said, “Hey there’s a seminar I really want to go to but it’s $1500.”

She immediately replied, “GO.”

I was surprised she said that. But she knew the MLM stuff wasn’t working long before I did, and she knew my Guerilla Marketing education was working.

(I think women are emotionally “quicker” than men. In fact I may be first shrewd observer in the course of humanity to have ever noticed this.)

I hung on to that $12.38 subscription for about 4 years. Then I quit my job, became a marketing consultant and suddenly I realized I needed as much mojo as I could get.

Suddenly I was a ‘player’. I invested accordingly with Laura’s full consent. My investment in personal education shot up to about $500 per month in a span of a few months.

It took time for me to become a good customer. But that’s OK, because in time I eventually became a very good customer, trust me.

I’ve not been one to be reckless about my education dollars. I don’t like buying things and just sticking them on the shelf. If you’re at all typical of Planet Perry members, you don’t either. You prefer to be intentional about what you choose to learn and how you apply it.

And, I hope, you’re not afraid to make the investment when you need to.

I love seeing people take their investment (whether it’s $40 per month or $1000+) and build small fortunes with it. It’s one of the most satisfying things I do.

I also hope you’re paying attention to whose courses just gave you a dose of ‘feel good’ and an adrenaline rush when you clicked the “buy” button – vs. whose products actually made you money.

I invite you to go through a mental inventory of what you’ve bought in the last 2 years, what’s paid off and what’s been a waste. And rather than impulsively yielding to the next product launch that shows up… go to the fountain that’s given you the best tasting water.

How To Create A Story To Brand YOU

via Rachael Macgregor's MLM Secrets by Rachael on 26/11/10

“Stories SELL, Facts TELL”

I can’t remember where I first heard this saying but it has stuck with me ever since. To really grab people’s attention you need to have a story.

For me, it was replacing my family’s income in my first three weeks, bringing my husband him from work and making $1300 in a DAY – all in under 12 weeks.

Now if I had just said to you that I’m having success online with a company that’s been around for 9 years, new in the USA etc etc…would you still have the same interest? NO!

This is why you need to create a STORY. It doesn’t have to be money, it doesn’t even have to be huge…what’s important is that it’s true, people can relate to it and that you can invite people to take a look at HOW you did it.

If you’ve been in network marketing a while but don’t have a story, I want you to write down a list of small achievements you’ve had so far. Did your Alexa ranking drop by a couple of million when you started sharing content of Facebook? Tell people about it! Did you double your leads when you started using video? Tell people about it!

The more you can show people that you are consistently getting results, constantly improving, they are going to want to know more about YOU. Before you know it, so many people DO want to know about you that you end up making $1300 in a day like I did…..it’s PURE MOMENTUM!

Now, if you are totally new to online marketing/network marketing the BEST thing you can do is find a system that WORKS, along with a mentor that can guide you. COMMIT to following their system and taking MASSIVE action for 100 Days and then, as you start seeing results (however small), make a video or write a blog post about it and LET YOUR MENTOR KNOW. If they are anything like me, they will blast that video/post to their whole list as a testimony. This helps them prove that their system works and, most importantly for you…YOU GET FAMOUS. The more you follow them and get results, the more they will put your face out there.

If you don’t have a system that works and want one for FREE, go to http://OnlineVideoDomination.com and get my 68 Minute Webinar on the EXACT Strategy I Use To Get 30+ Leads Daily Using FREE Marketing Strategies. When you see results in a few days contact me and I’ll share your testimonial videos with THOUSANDS to help you get your name out there.

Have fun!

Tough times in the economy right now for small business owners, people are in fear about whats going to happen in the future. If anybody is going to get us out of this mess it's going to be entrepreneurs....

Six Figure Mentors

Six Figure Mentors

Six Figure Mentors The Community

Finally, six figure mentors break out and form a true six figure community. All the marketing power of these masterminds focusing their skill towards one defining purpose. Seriously folks, this really is not the group looking for a few extra bucks, however, if your looking to seriously increase your power and ability to learn and earn then this mastermind group will take both you AND your business on to the next level.

Something is created when two minds come together with a definiteness of purpose and like the late Napoleon Hill stated in the classic book ‘Think & Grow Rich’ a third mind is formed that taps into creative abundance!. It is this third mind, where creativity knows no bounds, where great ideas are born that neither of the part would of conceived of by themselves.

Six Figure Mentors Create A Mastermind

It’s called The Mastermind Principle’ and without getting too convoluted, it’s the very same principle we have in our governments and great institutions. Where a body of men or women, skilled in various disciplines work together to form a ‘dream team’.

The principle has had incredible success, across a variety of disciplines, in the field of sports, business and government. And it is no less a skill to form this Six Figure Mentors Mastermind group than it is to bring a definite and considerable skill to its benefit.

Just like Mr Henry Ford, making his greatest advancements whilst in alliance with Mr Harvey Firestone and Mr Dunlop, it is no coincidence that success comes rapidly when partnered with men and or woman of great vision, skill and purpose. benefiting all members of the community, six figure mentors pool their resources, skills and expertise to benefit all members of it’s community.

Nearly every, if not all great success stories are based in no small part of the mastermind principles talked about in this article. Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a true spirit of harmony, focused on the attainment of a definite purpose is truly a powerful force of nature. The master plan for us all was and is to work together, it was designed that way by a higher power!

By embracing each other, we all benefit. Without harnessing the principles of the mastermind group, it is not possible to achieve great power and influence.

Flip-thinking – The Future Of Education?

But one American teacher is taking a different approach – and in the process, he’s offering a lesson in innovation for organisations of every kind.

Karl Fisch is a 20-year veteran of Arapahoe High School, located south of Denver, Colorado. For the past 14 years, the one-time maths teacher has been the school’s technology

co-ordinator. But a round of budget cuts forced him to take on extra duties – and a few weeks ago, he returned to the classroom to teach an algebra course to 9th and 10th graders (14 and 15 year-olds).

However, instead of lecturing about polynomials and exponents during class time – and then giving his young charges 30 problems to work on at home – Fisch has flipped the sequence. He’s recorded his lectures on video and uploaded them to YouTube for his 28 students to watch at home. Then, in class, he works with students as they solve problems and experiment with the concepts.

Lectures at night, “homework” during the day. Call it the Fisch Flip.

“When y

ou do a standard lecture in class, and then the students go home to do the problems, some of them are lost. They spend a whole lot of time being frustrated and, even worse, doing it wrong,” Fisch told me.

“The idea behind the videos was to flip it. The students can watch it outside of class, pause it, replay it, view it several times, even mute me if they want,” says Fisch, who emphasises that he didn’t come up with the idea, nor is he the only teacher in the country giving it a try. “That allows us to work on what we used to do as homework when I’m they’re to help students and they’re there to help each other.”

When he puts it like that, you want to slap your forehead at the idea’s inexorable logic. You wonder why more schools aren’t doing it this way. That’s the power of flipping. It melts calcified thinking and leads to solutions that are simple to envision and to implement.

Consider the publishing industry. In the US and the UK, publishers typically launch a book by issuing a pricey hardcover. Then, after a year or so, they publish a less expensive

paperback. But the marketing guru and author Seth Godin has proposed flipping the sequence – especially for books that aren’t written by celebrity chefs or former prime ministers.

Why not, Godin has proposed, put out the cheaper paperback – or even an e-book – first? Readers are more likely to gamble on an unknown author when they can risk £8 rather than £25.

Then, if the book sells well and builds an audience, the publisher could produce, say, a £40 commemorative hardcover edition – something that’s a collectible for true fans willing to pay a higher price.

Or im

agine flipping the sequence in the movie business. For blockbusters, the typical strategy is to open huge the first week, maintain the momentum for a while, and then come out on DVD when interest wanes. Alas, most films aren’t blockbusters. So for those s

orts of movies, studios instead could first issue a low-price DVD or streaming video to build an audience. If the film proved popular, the studio could then release it to theatres – where early adopters and people who have heard the buzz could watch the film as a communal experience.

Even the human resources department is a candidate for the Fisch Flip. For instance, employees get a going-away party on their final day with an organisation. But Rite-Solutions, an upstart American software firm, does the reverse. As William C Taylor writes in his upcoming book, Practically Radical, the company holds a welcome bash for new employees at 9am on their first day of work.

If incumbents can rejuvenate by flipping the sequence, sometimes challengers can gain by flipping an industry’s very business model. For example, in large cities in the US and Europe, many cafes have become makeshift workplaces. Small entrepreneurs, independent workers and free agents can buy a cup of coffee – and get an internet-enabled office for free.

But this

trend has also helped give rise to a new industry – co-working spaces, where those same sorts of business people can rent small offices and have access to conference rooms, copiers and kindred spirits. Places like Le Bureau in London and Thinkspace in Seattle have flipped the model. They charge for the office – and give away the coffee. “We encourage collaboration among community members,” says Thinkspace founder Peter Chee, and “our free coffee is one way to facilitate that”.

So here’s your homework for tonight. Ask yourself: what is one process, practice, method or model in my business, work or life that I can flip? We’ll work on your answers together in class tomorrow.

Daniel H Pink is an author and business leader who writes about the world of work. His most recent book is Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us (Canongate Books).

Wow what a great concept! they have a term for it somewhere I think it's called "web-U-cation".

Is this the future of OUR education system? With broadcasting tools like gotowebinar and new emerging tools like my video talk coming into the equation everything is looking good for the future of being educated online.

Seth Godin "I don't have any good ideas!" do you?

"I don't have any good ideas"
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2010/11/i-dont-have-any-good-ideas.html

Now I know you’re bluffing.

First, everyone has good ideas. Maybe not as fast or as often as others, but are you telling me that in your entire life, you’ve never had one good idea? Ever?

I Hope That Was The Doggie - Internet Marketing This Week #48

Latest IMTW podcast Pretty Cool!

David Pogue - The Complexity Crunch!

Funny start, long video but worth listening too!

People are becoming overloaded with technology, too much too fast!

Most of the problems are the technology companies Microsoft etc trying to make things 'Simpler'.

Gadgets are getting tinier but fingers are ( last time I looked ) the same size. Improving software over time eventually ruins it! Forget all the features you need simple.

No wonder creating content for presentations or blogs is so confusing! I particularly like the picture of Microsoft Word with all its tool bars open lol Totally Unworkable!

Apple know this, for fear of being labelled a Apple fanboy they just keep things simple and it works.....

Interesting talk Enjoy!
